Letters to the editor: Our home climate

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone were on the same page about the climate emergency and were taking appropriate steps to limit unnecessary driving and flying until electric ground and air travel become the norm?

I am 71 years of age and have been concerned about air pollution and it’s cousin “global warming” for over half of my life. I have installed a number of different solar water heaters and photovoltaic solar panels over the years to take advantage of the sun’s clean energy while offsetting the need for burning coal, propane or other fuels. (Burning “fossil” fuels heats up the atmosphere by trapping the sun’s heat like a car with windows rolled up.)

We receive seasonal alerts from our power company and the forest service about changing climate and “wildfire” as the new normal. Can we reverse this awful situation? If we can travel into outer space and colonize other planets, I believe we can stabilize our home climate here on Earth. The entire world is on board about the climate situation to a greater or lesser degree, and we cannot neglect our individual responsibility to protect Earth’s biosphere.
