“Mike” Mathany 85 years old passed away from natural causes on February 6, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and had lived the majority of his life in Mount Shasta, California. He was married to Alberta Mathany and had three children who were born in Mount Shasta. Mike is survived by his daughters Debbie Mathany White and Linda Mathany as well his predeceased son Robert Mathany. Mike is also survived by his beloved Sister Colleen Aquila of Mount Shasta and brother Gary Mathany of Sacramento, CA. In addition he leaves behind his three grandchildren, Jared White, Jamie Edwardson and Jenae White along with their spouses and a total of 8 great grandchildren who dubbed him with the name “Pop Pop”.

Roger fondly known as Mike, was born to Hugh and Clara Mathany on October 18, 1938 in Wilber, Washington. He graduated from San Juan High School, Sacramento, CA and served in the Army National Guard. He joined the United States Army at 18 years old and served for 3 years at Fairbanks Alaska Army base. After his honorable discharge and moving to Mount Shasta he met and was married to wife Alberta Mathany for 58 years until she passed in Jan. 2020. He worked for the local saw mill Kimberly Clark and Roseburg Lumber in Mount Shasta until its closure, then retired with P&M Lumber in Mc Cloud, CA.

Mike prided himself in being a regular blood donor with the American Red Cross. He received several milestone awards and donated a total of over 100 pints of blood over the years. He was well known in the community for being a youth baseball umpire and parent volunteer for the swim team. Mike loved watching baseball, he enjoyed watching his favorite teams Giants baseball and was an avid San Francisco 49er fan for his entire life. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling to watch Giants games in San Francisco, NASCAR racing in Sonoma and Grand Prix Indy Car races with his daughters. A funeral service will be held this summer at the Mount Shasta Memorial Cemetery, date to be determined.
